Five Biblical verses that condemns Wearing Of Gold, Earrings, Nose rings and Other Jewelries

The use of jewellery such as earrings, nose rings, wedding rings, bracelets, leg chains, and other similar feminine adornments among Christian women and men has continually brought up arguments in the church. The church has been separated into fractions due to the different schools of thought on this issue.

Some Christians argue that it is wrong for true children of God to wear jewellery which can be classified as worldly attires.

While another school of thought believe that the use of jewellery and rings are just for adornment and when used moderately it is not sinful.

Some other persons argue that as Christians the best kinds of jewellery to wear are those engraved with Christian materials, like the image of Christ, angels, saints, virgin Mary and others.

However, before jumping to conclusions and siding with any of these schools of thought. You must first find out God's mind on this issue.

What does God say about the use of jewellery and similar ornaments? You need to know if God condemns the use of jewellery in his word, because at the end of the day, that's what will ensure your spiritual growth and that you are living up to God's standards.

Below are some Bible verses that show that God implicitly prohibits the wearing and use of earrings.

1. 1 Timothy 2:9, the Bible says, "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;"

Jewellery especially those made from gold and other costly materials are usually expensive and Godly Christians shouldn't lavish money on expensive items in place of spiritual gifts.

2. Hosea 2:13,  the Bible also says, "And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the LORD."

This Bible verse relays the impending judgement on those women who loves the pleasures and beautification of this corrupt world.

3. Leviticus 19:28 "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD."

The word of the Lord was so clear on this issue, God stated clearly, "You shall not make any cutting on your flesh", why then do Christians nowadays put their young infants into the pain of piercing their ears, some pierce their nose, belly button and other sensitive areas.

4. 1st Peter 3:3 says, "Whose adorning shall not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, wearing gold, or putting on garments; "

As a child of God, we should know that rd appearance influences one's outward-looking. Why not invest your money in Kingdom things rather than in earrings and jewelries as see how God would surely bless you?

5. Genesis 5:4; "And they delivered all the alien gods in their hands to Jacob, as well as all their earrings in their ears, and Jacob concealed them behind the oak near Shechem."

Earrings here were classified as alien gods, and these people had to remove them and hide them before offering to God.

6. Exodus 32:3-4 "And all the people break off the golden earrings which were in their ears and brought them unto Aaron.

And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt."

The children of Isreal fashioned their earrings into idols which they worshipped in place of God, and thus brought judgement on them. In our times, Christian women now see their earrings and jewellery as idols, they feel incomplete without them.

We should know that God is a jealous God as he won't condone his children harbouring idols in their hearts.

So for us, as children of God to remain pure and undefiled by the corrupt attires of this world we are to do away with them completely.

Let your adorning not just be outward, be beautiful on the inside and this will radiate out for all to see.
