See The Smartest Way To Pray 'The Lord's Prayer'.
The Lord's prayer is found in Matthew 6:9-13
The Disciples of Jesus Christ asked Him how they should pray. He taught them a prayer pattern called 'The Lord's Prayer'.
There's so much more to this prayer than many people know. It is more potent than we ever imagined.
When praying the Lord's Prayer, note that it is mainly divided into 9 Sections. Some people find it difficult to pray for even up to 30 minutes.
If you master how to pray 'The Lord's Prayer', you will be able to use it alone to pray for even up to one hour or more at a stretch.
If you are in the habit of rushing 'The Lord's Prayer', you need to change that habit.
In this article, I have divided 'The Lord's Prayer' into 9 sections to enable you understand how to pray with it smartly and achieve results.
If for instance, you planned to pray for about 30 minutes, you can use about 3 minutes for each section.
If you have about 10 minutes to pray, you can spend at least 1 minute for each section.
Also, learn to pause for a few seconds after each section and listen to your spirit. This helps you to know when God is communicating to you.
Remember that prayer should be a 2-way communication, therefore, as you pray, also pause calmly and listen to hear God speak back to you.
I want you to particularly take note of Section 6. There is a smarter way of praying it.
Now let us look at the smartest way to pray 'The Lord's Prayer'.
Prayer Section 1
Our Father, who art in heaven.
The fact that it begins with 'Our' not 'My' should always remind you that your prayers should not be selfish.
You are to first acknowledge God's presence and Fatherhood over your life.Thank Him for the privilege of your sonship.
Also acknowledge that He is in Heaven, meaning that He is far above you though He is with you. This consciousness should make you pray to Him with reverence.
Prayer Section 2
Hallowed be thy Name
At this point you should hallow God's name by telling Him how wonderful and excellent He is.
This is where you should praise His name and worship Him for who He is. Call Him by His beautiful names you know.
This section alone can even take you up to 30 minutes, depending on how long you intend to stay in His Presence.
Prayer Section 3
Thy kingdom come
To ask for God's Kingdom to come is to ask for His Presence, Power and Glory. It means to ask that His Kingship will reign in your life and that of others.
This is also the place where you intercede for lost souls to be saved; that God's Kingdom will be established in their lives.
Prayer Section 4
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
This is the section where you ask God to carry out His will and purpose for your life, family, church, nation, etc.
Pray that only His perfect will shall be done. Pray that the will of the enemy will not prevail.
Prayer Section 5
Give us this day our daily bread.
This is where you make your petitions and request to God. Remember it says 'us' and 'our', meaning that it is not only for you, but for others also.
Pray for your personal needs and the need of others.
Daily bread means a lot of things including Wisdom, Favour, Grace, Strength, Sound mind, good health, food and general provisions.
Prayer Section 6
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Recall that at the beginning of this article, I asked you to take note of Section 6.
Now, before you ask God to forgive your trespasses as you forgive others, you should seriously question yourself.
How well have you forgiven others their trespasses? If the same way you forgive others is exactly how God should forgive you, will you be truly forgiven?
Now, this is the smart way I pray this section.
I usually ask God to forgive me my trespasses and help me to forgive those who have trespassed against me. I ask Him to give me the grace to truly forgive others, even in advance.
I believe that as I grow in perfection, I will come to the point where I can pray it exactly as it is.
Prayer Section 7
And lead us not into temptation.
Temptation is the mother of sin. If you can overcome temptations, you can truly live righteous.
Pray that you will not find yourself in any temptation. Pray the same for your family members, colleagues, friends, loved ones, neighbours, etc.
Prayer Section 8
But deliver us from evil.
This is where you pray for divine protection and safety from evil plans of the enemy. Also pray the same for others.
Prayer Section 9
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
At this point, you are appreciating, honouring and glorifying God for He alone deserves all the glory, power and honour, for ever.
Praise and Worship Him as you conclude your prayers.
Finally, may I remind you that 'The Lord's Prayer' is not only for children's recitation. It works for everyone. Even just praying it through as it is, it is still very powerful.
However, with the method I shared with you, you will be able to prolong your prayers and spend more time in the presence of God.
Secondly, if you learn to pause for a few seconds in between the prayer sections and listen to your spirit, you will gradually begin to hear God speak to you personally.
I hope you were richly blessed by this article.
