Fasting which is an act of depriving yourself of food for the sake of an intimate relationship with God is something that every Christian does. If you are a true Christian and are have not fasted before, it means you need to put on the armour of fasting and begin to fast.
There are various reasons why we fast; if you want to solidify your relationship with God, you fast; if you want God to attend to your case as soon as possible, you fast. The fasting is like paying a price for what you are expecting from the Most High God. This means if only prayer is not working for you, fast.
The problem we have is the manner in which we fast. Most of us are used to fasting in the wrong way. Before you start fasting as a Christian, you must, first of all, understand the principles of fasting so that you don't end up violating the rules. When Jesus Christ was teaching His disciples how to fast and pray, He gave them guidelines.
One of the major ways people violate fasting rules is by telling others or letting others know they are fasting. It is totally wrong and that means such a person has ended up fasting in the wrong way. When you fast, it is obvious that you are going to be hungry but you don't have to show it. Behave like you are not hungry and move on.
Let us read from the book of Matthew chapter 6:16-18 where Jesus Christ explained everything.
"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
The principles of fasting are clear enough for easy understanding so stop telling people that you are fasting so that God in heaven can reward you. God bless you.
If I may ask, have you ever told anyone that you are fasting? Or has anyone ever told you? Please share this article.
