Which Church is Dangote Paying His Tithe? Nigerians Respond to Bishop Oyedepo's Tithe Sermon

The issue of tithe is a very controversial topic in Nigeria, with many having different interpretations of how to pay tithe and whom to pay it to.

While the men of God are always insisting that people should pay tithe regularly to the coffers of their respective churches, many Nigerian church members seem to be getting tired of the whole thing.

Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Winners Chapel made this statement about paying tithe which have generated alot of reactions:

The pro tithe pastors use some verses in the old testament like:

Malachi 3:8-9 ‘Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me!’ But you say,

‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation"

And Malachi 3:10 ‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house'

Many men of God have capitalized on this verses to drive home their demand for tithes from members.

While Deuteronomy 14:23-29 says "Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always........."

But men of God will not allow one to 'Eat thier tithe in peace' they will threaten us with curses or some of these Men of God will say we dont understand these verses.

Mr Ifedayo Olarinde a.k.a Daddy Freeze, responding to Bishop Oyedepo, tweeted:

He added that “Christ didn’t collect tithe neither did the disciples, yet no one was cursed! Tithing is the old law. Obeying the old law partially, without obeying all the 613 laws of Moses is what carries a curse. That’s why to us Christians, it’s referred to as the law of sin and death!”

While a Facebook user with the name Uchenna Eze wondered which church Aliko Dangote pays his tithe that he is so prosperous.

While Mr. Bright Okpocha pupoplarly called Basket mouth in the Showbiz industry added to the debate:

But the overall question is: Are the most prosperous people in the world, the people that pay tithe in the manner Bishop Oyedepo will prefer it?

If the answer is Yes, then why is Nigeria rated as the poverty capital of the world with all the tithes millions of our people pay?
