Tinubu Must Be Confident When Dealing With Issues Of Ethnic And Religious Identity – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has rejected the new administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which must be dealt with in the interest of the country.

CAN specifically noted that the new administration must take advantage of the goodwill of religious leaders to seek true inclusive peace.

The Christian congregation also said Tinubu must be confident in fighting against ethnic and religious identity, adding that Nigerians should be able to enjoy economic and socio-political benefits regardless of the country they choose to live in.

The proposals were made by its president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, yesterday in Abuja at a summit of church and mission leaders organized by the Gideon and Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation.

The theme was peacemaking and Christian mission. He said: “The incoming administration, blessed with a group of religious and community leaders who are committed to peace, must harness the goodwill of religious leaders to seek genuine comprehensive peace.

"Tinubu must be confident when dealing with issues of ethnic and religious identity. Nigerians should be able to ask for and receive economic and socio-political benefits in any part of the country they choose to live.

"Addressing the original clause and the full right of residence for Nigerians is a step in the right direction." The principle of federal character should be respected, and the citizens should be freely given the full right to freedom of religion or worship so that they can freely join any religion that they choose. “Kidnapping, illegal marriages, and forced conversion of people against their will are archaic, reprehensible, and reprehensible throughout the modern world and should not be allowed to flourish here.

“This anti-social practice, which has become prevalent, especially in northern Nigeria, should be discouraged and condemned by both well-intentioned citizens and those in power.

“Such behavior, if tolerated, is a recipe for anarchy and will ultimately render peace efforts futile. Accountable Governance: It is no secret that Nigeria lacks quality leadership that is yet to transform the country's abundant economic prosperity into sustainable development.
