The Former Minister of Aviation and a member of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign council, Femi Fani Kayode has alleged that the votes Peter Obi got in the 2023 Presidential election are Anti-Muslim votes from some Christians. FFK stated in a TVC interview that some number of Pastors told their congregation in Lagos state that they shouldn't vote for Bola Tinubu because he opted for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
FFK asserted that this was the main reason why Asiwaju lost Lagos State to Peter Obi. Assessing their chances of winning the governorship election, he stated that no religious sentiment can be used to sway the minds of the people against APC because Sanwo-Olu is also a Christian. In his words, Lagos state still remains an APC state.
He said, ''I know precisely what led to our defeat in Lagos, I know those that worked against us. I know those that played the politics of religion. They went from Church to Church saying that they should not vote for Asiwaju or a Muslim-Muslim. But Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a good Christian and that will not play out in this election.
It wasn't just a matter of the people from the South East voting for Obi in Lagos. It wasn't as simple as that, there were individual that was going from Church to Church to campaign against the Muslim-Muslim ticket. Some Pastors in Lagos told their congregation that they shouldn't vote for Asiwaju because of the Muslim-Muslim ticket. And that is why we lost Lagos to the Labour Party.''
