The Imminence And Suddenness Of The Rapture

The Rapture is a sudden and an unprecedented event that will shake and move the foundation of the whole world.

Describing the event in 1Corinthians 15:51-52, the apostle Paul, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says, "Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed".

The more intriguing fact of the Rapture is the astonishing manner in which it will happen. It will be sudden, spontaneous and shocking like the twinkling of an eye! On that glorious day, at that unexpected moment, the Lord Jesus Christ will appear in the sky, introduced by the sound of a mighty trumpet, and Christians who have kept themselves pure and ready for His coming will hear the sound, and together with all who have died in righteousness, will be caught up to meet Him in the air (1Thessalonians 4:16-17).

As a result of the suddenness and spontaneity of this great event, the disappearance of people, Christians and children under the age of accountability, there will be distress and confusion everywhere around the world.

For instance, imagine a Christian pilot flying an airplane, or driving a train when the Rapture suddenly takes place or a Christian driver disappearing while driving a commercial bus. The destructive effect will undoubtedly be catastrophic. No word can adequately paint the picture of such a horrific occurrence.

Yet, this glorious event will bring blessed hope of eternal redemption for all true Christians. They will forever be with their long-awaited Saviour, having been changed forever from troubled mortals to triumphant immortals.

All our pains, sorrows and sicknesses, trials, persecutions, troubles and tears will be over. And we will be united with the holy saints of old whom we have read about and have longed to see face-to-face. No earthly union can be compared to this glorious gathering. We will be delivered from the fearful judgement that will befall sinful inhabitants of the earth (Isaiah 26:20-21). And unprecedented peace, unspeakable joy, and unlimited bliss will be ours forevermore.
