Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye has revealed the kind of teaching around the Redeemed Christian Church Of God many years ago when he became the General Overseer of the Church. He thanked God for helping the Church learn something new after many years.
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye made the revelation on Sunday when he preached at the Church headquarters in a Special Sunday Service, Going Higher (Part 29).
According to Church Gist, Pastor Adeboye said when he became the General Overseer of the Church, the teaching then was that Christians "must look serious."
The respected Clergyman who took charge of the Redeemed Christian Church Of God affairs many decades ago also thanked God for helping them learn something new from what they were used to. He recalled how he would be determined to look serious but when he stepped out of his office, he would laugh and smile with children.
Speaking to his congregation, the RCCG General Overseer said;
"When I became General Overseer, the teachings around then were that as a true Christian you must look too serious, thank God we have learned a little more now. I remember those days in Ebute-Metta, when we were doing Sunday School group by group, I will be going round to make sure things are going properly, I will leave my office determined to be serious and as I am going I will see little children and I can't resist them, I will laugh and smile, I will get back to the office and say oh God, look at you now, you are supposed to be serious until He showed me that even me, your Father, I laugh, what a deliverance."
Pastor Adeboye joined the Redeemed Christian Church Of God in 1973 and was ordained a Pastor in the Church (RCCG) by late Pa. Josiah Akindayomi in 1975.
He became General Overseer of the church in 1981.
