Pastor Adeboye’s View On Wife’s Submission in Marriage

Pastor Adeboye, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God is a man that loves to talk about Christian marriage, being a man who has been married for over 50 years.

He believes in one thing, for a marriage to be successful, follow what is written in the Bible.

His views about woman submission in marriage have attracted lots of criticisms in the social media. Many claimed that he is too extreme in his views, and that what he is looking for in marriage is practically impossible in today’s society.

They simply see him as old school.

Well, whatever anybody says, you cannot blame the man of God, he is simply following what is in the bible, trying to lay good examples for us to follow.

According to the book of Ephesians 5:22 – 23 which he always quotes to back his views, the bible says;

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

This is clear enough for anybody to understand, and if we know that the bible is the word of God, then this should not be disputed at all.

One thing all of us must know is that God himself instituted marriage.

It was never the idea of man. Adam did not wake up one day and realized he needed a wife, it was God who said, it is not good for the man to live alone, I will make a help meet for him, and then He brought Eve to Adam.

What it means is that, it is only God who has the total understanding of marriage, no man, no matter how old, or wise can have a full understanding of marriage.

One thing we all fail to realize is that, the two most important entities in a marriage are the husband and the wife, without them, a marriage cannot exist. Other things no matter how important they might seem are just accessories, a marriage can exist and thrive well without them.

When I said other things, I mean those things that people are placing high priority upon today like; money, social status, good jobs, fame, material wealth, family background, education, etc.

All of these are the things that many are putting first in marriage today, that are causing problems in some homes.

Those who are doing this are totally wrong.

It is very difficult and almost impossible to bring two matured people who have come from different family backgrounds, languages, cultures, etc to start living together for the rest of their lives.

How can they believe fully in each other, how can they live together as one?

For that to happen without any crises, they need a law that is above that of man, a law that the wisest, and the all knowing mind can bring, and that is where god comes into the picture.

Any marriage that does not follow the injunction of God will hit the rock.

The couple may manage to tag along, but they will never get fulfillment in it.

If God says, a wife should submit to her husband, He knows the reason why. We may not know, but He knows.

It is not every time your father tells you to do something that he will tell you the reason why, yet he will wants you to obey without questioning.

Women submission in marriage has never been an issue, until women education, and emancipation started to spread in our society. Even though these are good, many carried them too far to the point that women began to see themselves as equal to men in all things.

The results is what we are seeing today, marriages are breaking, many are not willing to get marry, all kinds of abuse in the home, etc.

They are happening because people have neglected the instructions of God.

This is what the man of God is simply trying to point out, let us not persecute him please.
