Over the years, there has been a lot of controversies among different Christian religious leaders over the celebration of Christmas, maybe it is Biblical or is not scriptural.
Some were with the opinion that the birth of Jesus Christ does not connotes nor have anything to do with Christmas, while others said believe how we're people able to know the exact day the Saviour Jesus was given birth to and celebrating it idol worshipping, but some said Christmas is a good thing to celebrate since it symbolizes the birth of Christ.
Here is the belief of four prominent Nigerian pastors about the Christmas celebration.
1.Pastor Kumuyi of the Deeperlife Bible Church
This is One of the most respected men of God across Africa and beyond, he once said that those who celebrate Christmas will go to hell as he relates to idol worshiping and he also explains that the act is unscriptural.
The pastor belief it is the idolatry mystery of the Babylonians of those times
He once said “When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don’t find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don’t find that in my church either
2. Bishop Odukoya of the Mountain of Fire Ministry
The belief of bishop odukoya is not far from that of pastor kumuyi, pastor Kumuyi said it is idolatrous while bishop Odukoya's belief the root is of Christmas is demonic.
Reading through one of the statements he made many years ago, he said “In Mountain of Fire, we don’t celebrate Christmas because the root is demonic.”
He also emphasizes that those who celebrate it are “ gullible followers” of Christ the Saviour.
3. Pastor Adeboye of the Redeem Christian Church of God.
The stance of pastor Adeboye is not really known on this subject matter because he has never for once officially his support for the celebration nor condemns it but he has been present in various Christmas carol across Nigeria as Guest Minister and as well always send greetings card during the celebration.
4. Bishop Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church
The bishop is fully in support of this celebration as he believed that it is one of the best celebrations in the world, also emphasized it is a time of sharing and showing love towards one another he also stressed that "One of the blessings of Christmas is Peace".
