Onyia said Nigeria had witnessed an increase in kidnapping and banditry due to poverty, lack of education, inequity, injustice and lack of employment opportunities.

He said the problems of banditry and kidnapping would be a thing of the past if the problems identified were dealt with.

“If these crises are dealt with, the recruitment of young people by groups of bandits will be limited,”

Onyia said the consecutive actions of kidnappers and bandits were depicting Nigeria as unsafe.

He pointed that with the recent level of kidnapping and banditry, it “seems the Federal and state governments are not doing enough to fight them”.
