2 Bible Truths Why Israel Was Called the Firstborn Son of God among Other Nations of the World

When God was bringing the Israelites out of their slavery in Egypt, He referred to them as His own firstborn son. He asked Moses to tell Pharaoh, "Israel is My firstborn son" (Exodus 4:22).

Why did God call only Israel His firstborn son, though others nations might be called His sons too? The reasons for this were:

1. Israel was the new name that God gave to Jacob the brother of Esau, the children of Isaac, the son of Abraham. And to this generation God had made a promise through Abraham that He would make him the father of many nations,(Genesis 17:5) and that would be through Isaac's seed. That promise was declared again to Jacob(Israel) who was the ancestor of Jesus Christ in the flesh.

2. Israel, as the father of the people of God, was the representation of who Jesus is. According to Hebrews 1:6, it is understood that Jesus is the Firstborn Son of God that the Bible always talks about. While the passage that the book of Hebrews was referring talks about the Israelites, it is actually a shadow of the reality that Jesus was going to fulfill.

These biblical truths make it evident that every story, events and character in the Bible was talking about Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, since the Bible is the Word of God as Jesus is the Word of God.
