Pastor David Oyedepo, the overall pastor of living faith church and also it's founder. He is also a Nigerian preacher, Christian author, businessman, and an architect. His church, Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners' Chapel International.
Paying of tithes have in recent times become a controversial topic in today's Christian world as many people have come to believe that these tithes have been consistently misused by the church pastors. We should note that paying of tithes have scriptural backing as the Bible expects us to give to God one tenth of our income.
In his tweet, pastor Oyedepo said, "Tithing is an inescapable covenant obligation. Prosperity not just wealth is impossible without tithing, because when you're not paying your tithe, you're under a financial curse." This has sparked a controversial argument on Twitter.
Reacting to this post, a man had this to say, "I will gladly spend 20% of my income with the poor among us, but I will never again give 5% to any pastor in the name of tithe. This is organized Ponzi scam. Worst thing is when you don’t pay up, they threaten you with Hell Fire and misfortune."
A lady reacted to the post saying, "That’s actually true! And no, it doesn’t have to be to the physical church.
“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.” I mean even the world billionaires give back to the society!"
