The Lagos State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Babatunde Stephen Adegbite has revealed why he supported the President elect of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last presidential election.
Speaking in an interview conducted in Yoruba, Bishop Adegbite highlighted some things Tinubu did while he was Lagos Governor which benefited the church as the reason why he supported him.
He said, "Tinubu is not someone that will have to give me money to support him because I have known him for over 30 years now. He did very well in Lagos. All our 13 schools were returned back to the church when he was Governor. After that, he put a programme in place where Christians can travel for pilgrimage free of charge. Also, he gave all those who needed medical help money to go for treatment abroad.
There was a day I collected ₦2 million that we gave to one of our Bishop’s wife who was sick. She went to India for treatment and came back.
And the people he appointed into government when he was Governor of Lagos State, the Christians he appointed are more than the Muslims. Tinubu will only appoint whoever is fit for the job.
These are the things I saw that made me said, if this man has the opportunity to become President, what he did in Lagos that brought Lagos this far, he will do more than that for Nigeria. Anybody that acknowledges there is a difference in Lagos between 1999 and now, he ought to know that the person God chose, who is created for a special purpose, is Bola Tinubu.
These are the reasons why I believed someone like that should be supported."
