Bishop Tome Ferreira da Silva has been investigated by the Vatican on at least two previous occasions. The Bishop was accused of taking Church funds to give to his 26-year-old female lover, an allegation he denied.
The Brazilian Bishop knew that after the video was leaked online, he would be axed by the Vatican before his resignation. It is not known yet who will replace Tome Ferreira da Silva as Bishop of the Sao Jose do Rio Preto diocese.
