3 Significant Events that took Place When Jesus Died and Rose Again that Everyone Must Remember

At about three o'clock in the afternoon, as Jesus gave up the spirit after He had cried out to the Father, the story of every man in Christ changed. Even the soldiers that stood by had to ponder upon the significant events that took place at His death on the cross, and exclaimed that He was truly the Son of God.

The book of Matthew 27:45–56 gave the expository accounts of the crucifixion of Jesus. During the crucifixion and eventually His death, it was recorded that:

1. "At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split."( Matthew 27 verse 51) That is, this event was both physical and spiritual. However, the spiritual meaning was more important because that was the basic reason Jesus died on the cross, so that He might establish a new and living way of worship of God through the veil of His human nature.(Hebrews 10:19–20)

2. "The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised."(verse 52). This was more of visionary, revelatory or spiritual experience because Jesus as the firstfruits from among the dead had gone to set the captives in the graves/Sheol free. (Psalm 68:18).

3. "After Jesus’ resurrection, when they[the dead] had come out of the tombs, they entered the holy city and appeared to many people." (Verse 53). The souls of the saints that resurrected were not physically seen in Jerusalem, since the Holy City that they entered was a reference to heaven and not the physical Jerusalem.(Revelation 21:2). Rather, the gospel writers were in the Spirit, like Ezekiel and John, and thus had been made to see what was happening in the spiritual realm.

These beautiful and significant events must be remembered by every man in Christ as they were the proofs or evidences of the work of eternal salvation that cross had wrought for us all.
