Meet The First Reverend Father In The History Of Yoruba Land (See His Photos)

It is of record that Reverend Samuel Johnson who lived within the time space of 24th June 1846 to 29th April year 1901 was an Anglican priest and historians of the Yoruba race .

He was born in Creole Freetown Sierra Leone . Reverend Samuel Johnson was a prince of the Oyo clan as a descendant of the Alaafin Abiodun of Oyo . He was a graduate of CMS (church missionary society institute) . Thereafter , he taught during what became known as the Yoruba civil war .

In the year 1880 , he rose to the position of a deacon and in 1888 a priest . He was based in Oyo since the year 1881 and completed a research work on Yoruba history in the year 1897 .

After his death , his brother identified as Dr. Obadiah Johnson recompiled and rewrote the book using the Reverend Johnson copious notes as a frame of reference .

In the year 1921, he released it as a history of the Yorubas from the earliest times to the beginning of the British protectorate .
