Two Key Morning Prayers that Fortify Me Before I Set Out for the Day's Activities

Prayer is a way through which we communicate to our God. It is through prayer that we are drawn closer to the Maker. So, I it's important for every Christian to say a prayer every morning in order to feel closer to God and invoke His presence into your life and affairs.

For me, there are three major sections of a good prayer. These are:

A. Honor and Thanksgiving: A good prayer should start with humility. This humility is showcased through giving honor and thanksgiving to God for the good things He has done in your life, more especially the life you have. Appreciation is very important because it is when you are appreciative that more will be given to you.

B. Asking for Mercy: You have to acknowledge that you have sinned against God in one way or the other, both intentionally and unintentionally. Then you ask God for forgiveness while you prepare not to go back to the sins again.

C. Proceeding to ask for Favour: After thanking God and asking for forgiveness of sins, you can go ahead to make your requests. But most importantly, you need to ask that He strengthens the friendship/relationship between you and Him. Ask for His presence in your life at all times.

These three major factors are well covered by the two key morning prayers which I'm about to share to you. In fact, they are carefully applied in that particular order.

The first is the chief of the Christian prayers: Our Lord's Prayer.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth; as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from all evil. Amen.

The second is titled "Prayer to Jesus on Whom I Depend". It goes thus:

Jesus I depend on You.

I have no power of my own.

When things are going well for me,

I know that they have come from You.

For I have no power of my own.

In my trials, I rely on You.

In my temptations, I trust in You.

My success is in Your hands.

My life is in Your hands.

For I have no power of my own.

Oh Lord I cannot do without You

Save me from all evils oh Lord.

And guide my going and my coming

Now and forever. Amen.

The prayer was engendered by Rev. Fr. Prof. Emmanuel Edeh, Founder of Madonna University, Elele - Rivers State.
