Apart from the fact that Jesus was also called the Christ(Messiah), the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Good Shepherd and the Door, one of the common titles used for addressing Jesus in the Bible while He was still on earth was "Jesus of Nazareth."
Many people have considered this title to be as a result of His having lived and been brought up in Nazareth of Galilee, after His mother Mary and her husband Joseph had brought Him there. This is not a lie.
But that is not just the main reason for the Bible's emphasis on the title. The Bible had to lay emphasis on that title to call the attention of the reader to Someone significant in the Word and something spectacular about Him.
Firstly, the Bible mentioned this title to remind every reader about the fulfilment of the promises of God to the Israelites and the world. According to Mark 10:47 that says, "When he[Zaccheus] heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Zaccheus being of the sons of David too understood the promise that God had made Micah 5:2 about the coming King of the kingdom of God.
Secondly, the title or phrase "Jesus of Nazareth" meant that Jesus was not just a native of Nazareth, but that it was a wonderful thing and amazing to the people that such a good person or thing could come of Nazareth, as Nathaniel exclaimed in John 1:46.
Not only Nathaniel, but even the Jews could not believe what their eyes had seen. How could the Son of God, the King of Kings and the Saviour of the whole world come out of such an insignificant town, Nazareth of Galilee?
But God also allowed this title to tell people of the world that God's ways are not their ways and His thoughts are not their thoughts (Isaiah 55:8–9). Thus, a person's background, race, tribe, language, calibre or status do not determine their purpose and fulfilment in life. As long as God has plans for them and they are working with God they can be great at anytime.
