In our today's world, stress can come easily. It doesn't take much to raise your stress levels. Perhaps a work deadline can do that for you. Or school. Or family issues. Or even the ever worsening problems in Nigeria. Stress is now a common thing, and believe me when I say that I have seen people who act like they enjoy stress. In fact, some persons believe that they will be unable to function properly, if there's no form of stress in their lives. They disguise their error with the mask of "I work best under pressure."
But do you think it's God's will for you to constantly be stressed? Do you think God likes his children best when they are covered by stress? That's an obvious capital NO. You see, stress can do a lot to your health, and while your physical health is important (and stress can ruin it), your spiritual health is much more important, and stress can destroy it! You don't believe me? Well, ask yourself the following questions;
- when you are stressed, do you feel like studying your Bible or spending time with God?
- are you at peace with everyone around you, or do you crack up and explode at the slightest provocation?
- is your willpower at its highest, or do you fall so easily into temptation during your periods of excess stress?
I am no prophet, but I can predict that you chose the negative option on each occasion. Stress will never make you study your Bible or spend time with God. You will never feel like doing it. Stress will make you irritable, rude and always at the edge. You will never be at peace with your neighbours and family. When your stress levels are over the top, it is easier for you to fall into sin because you would be looking for something to ease the stress, and trust Satan to bring his evil suggestions of drugs, porn, illicit sex or binge drinking.
What's the solution then? You might think it's impossible for anyone not to be stressed today, but The Bible was written thousands of years ago, for such a time as today. Yes, God knew that stress would come super easy in the 21st century, and his word, and his methods, are the only sure strategies to combat stress.
Based on the Twitter message sent by God's servant Kenneth Copeland, he made it clear to us that because God is a good God, he provided rest for us his children. In fact, he commanded us to rest.
God gave this commandment in Exodus 20:9-11 that says;
"Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it."
Hey reader, do you think you know more than your Inventor? If God (and can you tell me anyone busier than God?) found the time to rest after his huge work of creation, why can't you find some time to rest before you continue your task? If your Inventor put down in the instruction book you came with, that you require at least a full day of rest, where you do no work at all, who are you to disobey?
Today, take a look at your schedule, and make plans to rest. Remove any unnecessary thing clogging up your time, and actually include resting in your activity for the day. And this is not me talking; this is a straight commandment from your Creator.
