What Did Jesus Christ Say About Fasting And Prayer?

Matthew 17 : 16 - 21.

Fasting and prayer are very important spiritual instruments that Christians can use to unlock the locked door of God's blessings. Without the two spiritual tools, miracles, signs and wonders may cease to exist in the the life of Christians and among the Christian's gatherings. No wonder, Jesus Christ said to His disciples that, "All these things (miracles) cannot happen without fasting and praying."

What is fasting? Fasting can be defined according to Wikipedia as, willfully refrainment from eating and something drinking. Fasting is the practice of abstaining from food and drinks while seeking God's face or asking for a particular thing from God.

While prayer can be defined as as a way of communicating with God, asking for one particular thing or the others from Him. Meanwhile fasting and prayer suppose to go together.

The above Bible reference made us to realize an incident that happened during the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ on this terrestrial planet, a certain man came to Him, begging to cure his son who was lunatick, though he had earlier brought his son to the disciples of Jesus Christ, but they couldn't heal him.

When Jesus Christ prayed for the young boy, he was healed instantly and completely. Then, when the man left with his son, the disciples of Jesus Christ asked Him why they couldn't cast out the demon from the boy. Jesus Christ answered them, " Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit, this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." Therefore, from the above statement, one can deduce that miracles can only happen when one prays and fasts. Mind you, your prayer and fasting should be coupled with holiness, the sky will be the limit.

May God increase our faith and give us power and spirit to fast and pray, in the name of Jesus Christ.
