There is a popular saying that “To Err Is Human, But To Forgive Is Divine”. Speaking about forgiveness, the Nigerian popular author and former special assistant on Media to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has stated his opinion on forgiveness.
In a wonderful piece he shared on his verified Twitter handle, Reno Omokri made it clear that it is a good thing to forgive people when they do wrong to us. Even the Bible says “forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sinned against us”. But “it is foolish to forget what they are capable of”, he stated.
He went on to cite an example of Sampson and Delilah. Reno Omokri noted that “Samson forgave Delilah the first, second, and third time. But Delilah destroyed him the fourth time because he foolishly forgot what she was capable of ”.
Letting go of the wrong done to us by others can be quite challenging sometimes. Although, to some, there are offenses that can never be forgotten. Like Reno Omokri advised that we should be wary of people who constantly do us wrong to us and we forgive. We should understand what they are capable of, if not we may meet the same fate as Sampson. However, this calls for carefulness and wisdom when dealing with such people.
