2 Things Pastor Bakare Suggested About Power Rotation After His Close Door Meeting With President Buhari

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Founder and General Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church has joined millions of Nigerians to make his position known about the next presidential election scheduled for 2023.

But the man of God did not seem to key into the same idea of many Nigerians about the zoning of presidency that has been a major topic of discussion in the media in the last few weeks.

Bakare bore his mind on Friday after his brief meeting with president Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock villa. It was a meeting that allegedly centred around the present situation of the country and nagging controversy bothering on where the next president will come from.

By 2023, president Muhammadu Buhari will complete his eight years term in office having been elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 respectively. The believe is that his exit from the presidency will pave way for the zoning agreement signed by the All Progressive Congress during its formative year in Lagos.

The party Chieftains especially the governors from the Southern region are already breathing down their necks to welcome the presidential power to their region not minding whom they will present to take over from the president.

However, pastor Tunde Bakare appears to have toed another line contrary to what the majority of people from the Southern region are toeing despite coming from there. Speaking to state house correspondents immediately after his meeting with the president in Abuja, the man of God made two suggestions about the presidential zoning.

The first thing he said was that Nigeria needs a competent person and not a regional person. For him, it is not about where he or she comes from. It is about what the person can deliver, the changes he will make and his capacity to take the country out of the present wood.

He noted that if the next president has what it takes to solve Nigeria problem, nobody will remember where he or she comes from and that is the kind of president Nigerians need at this moment. Not rotational system.

The second thing he said was that it is political immaturity that makes people clamour for regional presidency instead of competency.

Bakare believes that other regions who have produced Nigerian President in the past have nothing to show for it. No remarkable development in those regions to prove that their people have once been in power at the central.

Hence, if rotational system is followed this time, it may not make any difference to the nation. There is need to produce a President who will be president of all without a regional sentiment or attachment.

This is the only way the country can move forward and overcome it's challenges. These are the two suggestions made by pastor Tunde Bakare during his visit to the president on Friday.
