3 difficult things Jesus wants us to do

Christianity is not an easy religion to practice. Before you can exhibit the whole character of a true Christian, it takes God's grace. You can never do it on your own because most of them are very difficult. This is why the road to Heaven is said to be narrow; not everyone can enter.

Jesus Christ gave us many instructions on what to do to be safe but there are some of those instructions that are very difficult especially to average believers. If sufficient grace is not on your side, there is no way you can do them. Since we are still humans, the flesh can still work against us in that regard.

Here are the 3 difficult things Jesus wants us to do.

1. No retaliation.

Jesus said we should not retaliate no matter what. If it had been that when someone does something wrong to you, don't retaliate; it should have been better. In this case, Jesus went on to add another difficult task by saying if someone slaps your left cheek, turn the right one.

He went on to say if someone ceases your shirt, let him have your coat also. This means it doesn't stop at "not retaliating" but also extends to allowing the person to do more of what he has done to you. Is that not a difficult task? Let us read from the book of Matthew 5:39-40.

39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. NIV

2. Love your enemies.

Imagine you know someone who is plotting to kill you. He has even tried killing you once but failed and Jesus is asking you to love that person. Is that going to be easy? I know many Christians would find it difficult to do but that is a price you have to pay to follow Jesus. The heavenly race is not a joke.

Imagine that we have not even finish loving those who love us and now Jesus is extending the task of love to those who hate us. This requires grace otherwise, it would be a serious challenge for many believers. Let us read from the book of Matthew 5:44

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. NIV

Speaking further in verse 46, Jesus revealed why He wants us to love our enemies rather than loving those who already love us. Read verse 46 below.

If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? NIV

3. Sell all you have and give to the poor.

Someone who has suffered for years to make his money has been instructed by the giver of wealth to sell his properties and give to the poor. Would this be an easy task? Assuming the instruction is to give to the poor from the one you have, it would have been easier but in this case, it is like asking you to become poor to save the poor.

We all know it is not easy but that is the best way to save your treasures in heaven where they can never be destroyed. The question is; can you sell all that you have and give to the poor? Let us read from the book of Luke 12:33

Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. NLT

The bottom line is that it is better to give to the poor than to give to those who already have. If I may ask, which of these difficult tasks have you ever done faithfully? Please share.
