Sharia Law Enforcement Group Now Monitoring Fasting, Arrests 11 People For Eating

Northern based Sharia Law enforcer group, Hisbah has reportedly arrested eleven people in Kano State for eating while others were fasting in the Ramadan season.

The Islamic nation in Nigeria recently embarked on a seasonal tradition of fasting. By Islamic traditions and culture, each person is expected to fast for a particular stipulated time within the Ramadan season.

The reason for the arrest has been placed as refusal to participate in the fast which starts at sunrise and ends at sunset. The arrest was confirmed by Hisbah Director-General, Dr. Aliyu Musa Kibiya who said -

"We will investigate and if they have cogent reasons we will release them. Those found wanting will however be enlightened and even prosecuted if need be".

Ramadan is a period every Muslim faithful is expected to show their devotion to Allah by fasting within the stipulated period. However, there are also exceptions.

“Fasting is compulsory for healthy, adult Muslims in the month of Ramadan except for the travellers, menstruating women or old people" the Hisbah DG stated.
