Power of Effective and Winning Prayers

The Power of Prayer

Prayer is a powerful tool in the hand of the believer when approach Scripturally. It is one of God's covenant tools for the realization of our glorious destinies in Christ.

What effect does prayer have? How does prayer resurrect the dead? How does it treat illness? How does prayer ease the anxiety or depression of individuals who are suffering? Why do Christians offer prayers of protection over their children as they send them off to school or for their future spouses? How can prayer aid during a disaster like a pandemic or reach individuals who don't know Jesus?

One key passage of scripture contains the solution. Jesus spoke in Matthew 18:18–20 about the effectiveness of prayer when he said,

What you bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven, and what you free on Earth will be lost in Heaven, truly I say to you.

What you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what you free on earth will be released in heaven, I assure you. I'll say it again: My Father in heaven will grant any request made by two of you if they agree on it while on earth. Because I am present whenever two or three people are gathering in my name.

The Bible contains numerous instances of Jesus and the other disciples praying in conflict. At Elijah's request, God closed the sky and stopped rain for three years. For Moses to guide His people through, He split the Red Sea. Jesus cast out demons, cured the sick, and restored sight to the blind.

Everything contrary to good in the life of a believer is the work of the enemy. The devil is the father of all bad things and our number one enemy.

No Wonder the enemy is so jealous! He wants you down like himself. Just like he did not rest until he got Adam out of the garden of Eden, he has vowed not to rest until he gets you off the course of your destiny. He is determined to see you don't enter your promised land but he will not succeed in Jesus' name.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."

James 4:7

What Prayer Does

1. Prayer helps you develop a relationship with God

Just like your parents here on earth, your Heavenly Father wants to hear from you and talk to you. When you pray, He listens. Then He answers your prayers in the form of thoughts, spiritual feelings, scripture, or even the actions of other people.

2. Prayer helps you gain an understanding of God’s loving nature

The scriptures teach, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). You can feel that love as you speak daily with Him through prayer, seeking His guidance in your life.

3. Prayer provides answers

Praying and listening to the answers God gives you can help you better understand your purpose in life. God will help you understand why you are here and what you can do to return to live with Him after this life.

4. Prayer makes you more like Christ

Jesus provided the best illustration of prayer. You will grow more like Him and strengthen your relationship with Him and Heavenly Father if you make an effort to imitate His example through prayer.

5. You can find direction in your life through prayer.

You can process important decisions in your life when you pray to God in private. God is a good listener and frequently gives us the exact solutions and direction we need. Prayer itself is a method to achieve peace, even when He decides not to answer right away or in the way we would have wanted.

6. The power of prayer helps you resist temptation

"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation," Jesus advised His disciples (Matthew 26:41). We can resist temptations to sin by praying. Ask God to help you avoid making poor decisions in your prayers. You'll have the power to act morally thanks to this.
