Great people, am happy you are part of this platform. Today, I want to talk on a very subtle subject which many of us have not been taking notice of, but which has crushed a lot of believers and destroyed many mighty people! Please follow me as I talk on the topic for few minutes.
*THE LITTLE THAT KILLS THE MIGHTY*
I take my test from Songs of Solomon 2:15
It reads thus...
_"Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes."_
*Introduction*: A fly is small, but it can crash land an aeroplane! There was a very expert pilot that used to fly one of the fastest aircrafts in the world.
One day, on his journey, a little fly from nowhere entered his right ear. He tried to shake it away by shaking his head vigorously but the fly went in further into his inner ear.
He thought it was a joke and dipped his right index finger into his ear to take it out. But that just worsened the situation! Suddenly he became seriously uncomfortable and he lost concentration and control...
Then he committed a fatal blunder... And... And... And in a jiffy, the gigantic aircraft crashlanded! Oh, that's how the little fly pulled down a mighty aeroplane!
Today I want us to look at 3 little things that if present in one's life can secretly and silently kill one spiritually. They also have the capacity to prevent one from making the Rapture and finally bar one from heaven! What are they? 1. Little folly, (Ecclesiastes 10:1) 2. Little foxes, (Song of Solomon 2:15) and 3. Little fire, (James 3:5)
Now, let's look at them under these points: 1. *Little Folly that Brings Dishonour*; 2. *Little Foxes that Brings Destruction* 3. *Little Fire that Brings Defeat*
1. *LITTLE FOLLY BRINGS DISHONOUR*
_*"Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, and cause it to give off a foul odor; So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor."*_ (Ecclesiastes 10:1, NKJV)
Great and honourable men need to be very careful of themselves and what comes out of their mouths.
A little folly is a great blemish to people in high reputation for wisdom and honour.
The reputation that is got with a great deal of wisdom and built up over a long period of time may easily be lost in one minute just because of little from folly from them.
_*"He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly."*_ (Proverbs 14:29)
Now think on this:
_*"He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him."*_ (Proverbs 18:13)
Hence, those who make a great profession of religion have need to walk circumspectly to abstain from all appearances of evil, because many eyes are on them that watch for their folly.
_*"If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are just fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless."*_ (James 1:26, NLT)
Think on this...
_*"Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly."*_ (Proverbs 15:21)
Let's go to point 2...
2. *LITTLE FOXES THAT BRING DESTRUCTION*
_*"Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes."*_ (Song of Solomon 2:15)
Though these are little foxes, yet they do great harm, they spoil or destroy the vines, with tender grapes!
Who are foxes and who are vines? Biologically speaking, foxes are part of Canidae family, which means they are related to wolves, jackals and dogs.
Again, foxes have a lot in common with cats, they can see in dim light. And in all, they are predators, i.e. they kill other animals for food. They also destroy things. They are therefore destroyers and killers!
Now, believers are the vines. _*"For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry."*_ (Isaiah 5:7)
Believers are as vines, weak but useful plants with tender fruits in the beginning.
Now, take away the little foxes! What does it mean? Mortify your corruption, sinful appetites and passions, which are as little foxes that destroy graces and comforts and prevent spiritual growth!
Seize the little foxes, the first rising of sin, those sins that seem little, for they often prove dangerous and produce great consequences.
People of God, let's be careful of little foxes, little sins that can also send one to hell.
Many of us, by His grace, will never commit many big sins like fornication, adultery, murder, etc. but are not free from little sins, sometimes we ignore them as inconsequential.
But these little or small sins also have the power to send one to hell, just like the big sins!
This is the main purpose of this message, to bring to our notice again some little sins we often overlook or neglect. I got this message when i was studying the book of Galatians 5:19-21. Let's see some of them...
*Hatred:* _(bitter dislike, malice, tendency to hold grudges against or be angry at someone)_
*Variance:* _(quarreling, arguments, debating or disputes)_
*Emulations:* _(envies, jealousies, seeking to surpass or outdo others, uncurbed rivalry in religion, business, society, etc.)_
*Wrath:* _(turbulent passions, domestic and civil turmoils, rage, determined and lasting anger)_
*Strife:* _(angry contentions, disputations, strife about words, contest for superiority, etc., trying to equal or pay back in kind wrong done to one)_
*Seditions:* _(parties, factions, popular disorder, stirring up strife in religion, government, home, etc)_
*Envying:* _(pain, ill-will and jealousy at the good fortune or blessing of another person)_
*Revellings:* _(rioting, lascivious and boisterous feasting with obscene music, sinful pleasure, carousing, etc.)_
People of God, the judgment of God concerning those who commit these sins is _*"...that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."*_ (Galatians 5:21)
Now this is my point, friends of God, if big sins will not take one to hell, why must these little ones take someone there?
3. *LITTLE FIRE THAT BRINGS DEFEAT*
_*"Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!"*_ (James 3:5)
People of God, the result of *little folly* and *little foxes* is the *little fire* in our Christian lives. Simply put, they kill the fire of God in our lives, or at least, they reduce the fire to a little level.
Now, the problem is that this little fire can't withstand the powers we are to contend with!
Unfortunately, many people have gone to fight enemies with this little fire but received disgrace and got defeated! This is how the mighty fall!
Whereas, if we had got everything right, no enemy can defeat us, not even Satan! _*"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."*_ (1 John 4:4)
_*"So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him."*_ (Isaiah 59:19)
But if we don't have enough fire, we are in danger of being disgraced and defeated by the enemy.
_*"So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."*_ (Revelation 3:16)
Now, this is the most dangerous of this issue: The fire is not enough to defeat our enemy but is so powerful to damn one's soul in hell fire! This is the little that destroys the mighty! Oh how are the mighty fallen! Think on this...
*Conclusion:* Christians have the greatest power in the universe, but if we allow little folly and little foxes to eat into the fabric of our power, then we lose our victory!
We need to examine our life thoroughly and sincerely under the light of the Scriptures. If any of the little sins has become our tenant, we need to eject it immediately!
Remember the judgment of God stands sure upon believers who are not free from little foxes: The Lord said _*"...that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."*_
Anyone who needs assistance today can still get it, just come to the cross of Christ, open up to your Saviour, and He will deliver you from all iniquities.
