Photos of Kaaba, Masjid al-Haram, Station of Ibrahim & Other Holy Sites in Mecca

Islam is one of the biggest religions in the world with millions of people practising it. The word “Islam” means “submission to the will of God.” Followers of Islam are called Muslims and they believe that there is only one, all-knowing God, who in Arabic is known as Allah and that Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Unto Him) is a messenger of God.

In Islam, going on a pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca in present day Saudi-Arabia is one of the five pillars of Islam which every Muslim is expected to carry out in his/her lifetime. Other pillars include Profession of Faith (shahada), Prayer (salat), Alms (zakat) and Fasting (sawm).

Going to the holy city of Mecca is virtually every Muslim's dream. This is as a result of the spirituality and reverence attached to the city, however due to financial constraints or health issues, many Muslims are yet to visit or even fail to visit this holy land during their lifetime. It is also important to know that the city of Mecca is off-limit to non-Muslims so only Muslims are found in the city.

In Mecca, there are some beautiful and holy sites that Muslims usually visit during their stay. These holy sites are given much reverence because of the spirituality attached to the places.
