Scholars have stated that it is mustahabb (desirable) to separate between obligatory and nawafil prayers by speaking or moving to another spot.. Some of the scholars stated that the wisdom behind that is so as to increase the number of places where the Muslim prostrates,, so that they will testify in his favour on the Day of Resurrection.
The Prophet (saw) ordered us not to join one prayer with another prayer without leaving or speaking (in between).

✅ Changing positions for performing Sunnah prayers is a sound tradition of the Prophet.. Just as in the case of Tarawih prayers,, the Prophet always wanted to make a clear distinction between what was obligatory and what was optional.. Therefore in this instance,, he ordered the believers to change places,, so that it did not look as if the Sunnah prayers were an extension of the Fard or obligatory ones.
An- Nawawi may Allaah have mercy upon him said: 👉🏻 "It is evidence for Shaafi'i scholars that it is desirable to perform supererogatory prayers in a place other than the place where one had observed the obligatory prayer.. It is better to perform the voluntary prayers in one's house,, otherwise in the masjid but not at the same place where one had performed the obligatory prayer.. The reason is to multiply the places of prostrations and distinguish between an obligatory prayer and a supererogatory one.. The words in the above Hadith: "...till you have talked..." prove that the separation between obligatory and supererogatory prayers may occur only by talking, even though it is better to change the place for the above evidence."
✅ What about the one performing 4 rakaats nawafil❓Must he change position after each 2 rakaats❓
What is mentioned in the Sunnah is to move after an obligatory prayer,, for one who wants to offer a nawafil prayer.. There is nothing in the Sunnah – as far as we know – about moving between two nawafil prayers.. If a person wants to do so,, such as in the case of one who is offering four nawafil rak‘ahs, and wants to move after the first two rak‘ahs,, so as to increase the number of places where he prostrates,, some scholars are of the opinion that,, there is nothing wrong with that... BUT all the hadeeth that says - "Change position after 2 rakaats,, for one who is making 4 rakaats nawafil,, are all weak hadeeth (According to scholars of hadeeth)
