It was reported that despite the directive of the Sultan of Sokoto to hold the prayers on Thursday, Shiek Dahiru who is regarded as the spiritual leader of Muslims all over the country, disobeyed the order and held the Eid prayers today.
According to Daily Trust, Shiek Dahiru had earlier declared Thursday, May 13, as the day of salat and the first day of Shawwal, however, after the Eid Prayers which was held at his residence on Wednesday, he noted that the moon was sighted on Tuesday.
Sheikh Dahiru said, "We received reports that the moon was sighted in places like Gombe and Kebbi that was why we held the Eid Prayers, what was said or saw by two people are enough for a large crowd."
"Which is why we held the Eid prayers on Wednesday. The month of Ramadan is finally over, and the month of Shawwal has arrived", he added.
