"Jesus is not safe in America", Imam of peace decries
Popular Islamic cleric based in Australia, Mohammed Tawhidi aka 'Imam of peace has condemned the beheading of the statue of Jesus at the Good shepherd Catholic church in Kendel at South West, Miami- Dade.
There have also been series of attacks on Catholic Churches statues of the Virgin Mary in New York and Tennessee.
The black life matters supporters have vandalized monuments and toppled statues in a bid fight to racism. The national demonstration was fuelled as a result of the neck killing of George Floyd by a white police officer.
There has also been controversies by some black people about the white representation of Jesus been a symbol of racism because they argued that Jesus wasn't white.
Imam of peace revealed his fear that Jesus wasn't safe in the United States of America.
"Jesus is not safe in America. Jesus statue found beheaded at a church in Kendall. The Archdiocese of Miami wants it investigated. Must be condemned by us all"
Meanwhile, mixed reactions trailed his statement on social media.
A twitter user commented @ iFiberal,
"Imam sir, I do condemn this. But if Jesus was born in middle East, how is that a representation of Jesus we have as a white person and sometimes blonde as well. Shoudn't Jesus be a brown man like everyone in the middle East? Hence, isn't this representation of Jesus racist?".
@jackiecav1 stated, ''as a failed catholic, this breaks my heart".
@Arinzesam3 "Point of correction, that's not Jesus but a religious statue".
Another user showed his displeasure @ NotN2BnPC, "utterly disgraceful".
