The world's tallest man, Sultan Kosen of Turkey, poses in front of Tower Bridge to celebrate the Launch of the 2010 Guinness Book of Records on September 16, 2009, in London, England. He was 8 ft 1 in at the time he was measured for the record and also holds the record for the largest hands and feet at 27.5cm and 36.5cm.
He received a pair of the trainer on November 9, 2009, in the Hague from George Wessel, a specialist in large-sized shoes.
Sultan Kosen continues to grow because of acromegaly, a chronic metabolic disorder that causes too much growth hormone to be produced. His skeleton couldn't support him, he began taking medication and underwent radiation to control his growth. Doctors confirmed on March 13, 2012, that the 29-year-old who stands at 8 ft 3 in tall had stopped growing.
