What Diseases Can Be Contracted/Passed Through Kissing?

1. Herpes; this disease is caused by the herpes simplex virus and it has two subtypes, HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both viruses can cause lifelong infections but they can both remain asymptomatic but sometime before portraying signs and symptoms that can be disturbing. Herpes is at its most contagious state when it's showing symptoms but this doesn't rule out the fact that you can still transmit or contract this disease when you smooch someone. In all, oral herpes is the HSV-1 subtype and it is known for causing cold sores, blisters in the mouth and on the lips. So before you kiss anyone, make sure you look at the person's lips to be sure there are no wounds as the virus often causes wounds and blisters to form.

2. Syphilis: this is another disease that can be transmitted when you kiss someone. Syphilis is a bacterial STI that can be spread through direct contact with syphilis sore. What makes it a disease that can be contracted from kissing is that it causes sores to develop in the mouth, genitals and on the lips, and when you come in contact with these sores, you end up contracting the disease and the unfortunate thing is that syphilis shows symptoms that are disturbing, some of which are development of sores in the mouth and the genitals, fever, muscle ache and many other signs. Later if syphilis is not taken care of, the person might develop brown rashes on his or her palms.

3. HPV; this is another disease that can be contracted when you kiss someone carelessly or someone infected. This is fully referred to as Human Papilloma Virus and it is a disease that is caused by mostly direct contact with a person's genitals and can cause cancer later in life if not taken care of. When a person contracts Oral HPV, he or she would have certain signs and symptoms, some of which are, a persistent sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, pain while swallowing and hoarseness, all these can culminate in throat cancer and cancer of the base of the tongue, tonsils and oropharynx etc.

So immediately you suspect you have contracted this virus, do well to seek medical attention to avoid developing something more severe and serious. Lastly, be careful, don't just kiss anyone without being sure of the person's status, once you see cold sores on a person's mouth, do well to avoid any oral contact with such a person as even HIV can be contracted when you come in contact with a wound in the mouth and peradventure swallow the blood.
