In ancient times, people believed that sneezing allows evil spirits to enter your body and by saying "bless you", it keeps the evil spirit away.
This goes back to more superstitious times when a sneeze was believed to separate the soul from the body. To prevent the devil stealing the soul, the incantation “bless you” (i.e. God bless you) was uttered to release the soul from Satan’s clutches and return it to its rightful owner.
Well this word " bless you" became more as a culture or a must do. i.e it was a must to say "bless you" immediately after a person sneezes.
Sneezing was considered a symptom or a sign of when a person is going to die. So the word "bless you" was to give hope.
Well this utterance "bless you" grew from generations to generations till it reached our time.
Well now you know why we say "bless you" when someone sneezes.
