Making the jump to starting a new relationship is exciting and also a very big deal. It's a big deal because you have to choose the right person that will compliment you.
While we can’t know for certain all the good and bad characteristics our partner will bring to the table when we first meet them, there are certain universal traits you might want to look for in a relationship partner that will ensure a happier outcome. No person is perfect, of course, but here are some key qualities to look for before you date a partner:
1. Their current relationships with their exes:
The reason for this is that you don't want to be involved with someone who is still hung up on someone else.
Knowing their history can be a great way of protecting yourself from issues such as infidelity, toxic relationship habits codependency, etc. Also, learning more about your partner's ex, and how that relationship went down, can also make you a better partner. Just try not to bring this one up on the first date.
2. Are they employed?
Try to know what he or she is doing fora living. Asking “what do you do?” can be a tough question to answer, especially in this day and age when people do a variety of things at once.
The reasons you want to know the answer to this question is because you want to know if they are financially secure and if they are intoa legal business.
3. Physical attraction:
Physical attraction is an important part of a relationship. It is a way people stay connected and close to those they love. Keeping your relationship vital and intimate is part of making love last. It’s important to choose a partner who accepts, loves, and is attracted to you.
4. Their relationship with family:
No family is without its drama. But you need to should consider knowing how they are flowing with their relatives.
The family is the fundamental relationship of someone’s life and how they interact with that family is important to know.
5. Their criminal records:
It's a good idea to run a background check and determine if your soon-to-be partner is who they say they are. Remember that romance entails responsibilities, and your most important one is your own safety.
6. Their health status:
The knowledge of your intending partner’s health status is a major determinant of whether that relationship should work out or not. It provides an avenue to make informed consent and enables you and your partner to seek proper medical care early to prevent unnecessary stress and burden during the marriage.
