Opinion: 2 Questions That Need Answers After Akintoye Fled Nigeria To Avoid Being Arrested

It has been reported that Professor Banji Akintoye, a Yoruba Nation leader has fled Nigeria to avoid being arrested, in my opinion, there are 2 questions that need answers after Akintoye in a bid to avoid being arrested fled Nigeria.

According to reports, Professor Banji Akintoye discovered the plot to arrest him and that was why he fled Nigeria, this incident happened even before Sunday Igboho's residence in Imo state was raided by the Department of State Service, based on intelligence that he was stockpiling arms.

It can be recalled that it was after the raid, that the Department of State Services, DSS, declared Sunday Igboho wanted.

Sunday Igboho was later arrested along with his wife in Cotonou in an attempt to flee to Germany. Although his wife was later released, Sunday Igboho is still in prison and his lawyer is now trying to seek asylum for him. Below are the 2 questions that need answers after Akintoye fled Nigeria to avoid being arrested.

1. Was Professor Banji Akintoye keeping instruments of violence?

According to a report by Vanguard, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lucky Irabor during a security meeting with retired senior officers in Owerri, said it is not the job of the military to stop anyone from agitation. He added that what they are against is when the agitators are using instruments of violence.

It can also be recalled that it was on this ground that Sunday Igboho was declared wanted by the department of state services. Remember that the DSS said that they raided Igboho's house based on intelligence that he was stockpiling arms and it was after they found the arms that Igboho was stockpiling, Sunday Igboho was declared wanted. Below is an image of arms and ammunitions recovered in Sunday Igboho's residence.

I don't think Professor Akintoye would have been arrested if he didn't commit any crime, in this context the crime refers to the issue of stockpiling arms.

2. Why exactly did he run? Was he hiding any skeleton in his cupboard?

I believe that in cases where a person flees his own country of residence in order to avoid being arrested, it's either the person is guilty of a crime or the person has done something that will implicate him or her during investigation. If Professor Banji Akintoye was not stockpiling arms and his residence was void of anything that will implicate him negatively, why exactly did he run?
