Opinion: Two Points To Note About The Kidnap Of 'Bom Boy' In Cross River

Some days ago, fierce gun-wielding men in a commando-style stormed Ugep and kidnapped a prominent son, Chief Ubi Itam Etta popularly called 'Bom Boy'.

Bom Boy is a two term Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State from 2007 to 2013. His captors forcefully put him into a vehicle and took him to Ediba, Abi Local Government Area, where they had stationed a highly powered speed boat waiting for them.

According to reports, he was sitting at his fuel station on Ikom-Calabar highway, close to the Ediba junction in Ugep when the incident happened

Below are two important points to note about the kidnap.

1. The criminals who abducted 'Bom Boy' burnt their vehicle somewhere in Abi and used a boat to cross to the other side of the river. This is the most important update on this issue. I think the Police should conduct a forensic examination of the burnt vehicle to recover the DNA samples of the criminals. Even if the body of the vehicle is burnt to ashes, the engine will be intact and a good scientific team of investigators can clean up the engine to identify the owner. Machinery must be put in place to policing the Cross River, which is becoming a gateway for sophisticated criminals to carry out their nefarious activities.

2. If the criminals also used a boat to cross the river, it means the evidence is very close. Start the investigation in the coastal communities where the vehicle was found. Someone must be the owner of that boat. Someone must have seen something. The Security Agencies in the state should immediately start to patrol the Lower, Middle, and Upper Cross River because its vulnerability poses a serious security threat. This incident is still a thing of surprise to many.
