Igangan Killings: 'Smoke Them Out', We Are Ready To Defend Our Land, We Are Not Fools - Ooni of Ife

One of the most recognised and respected traditional ruler in Nigeria, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has reacted to the killing of Yorubas and other residents of Igangan, Ibarapaland by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The Traditional ruler has asked the authority to smoke the killers out because Yorubas are not fools and that the people are ready to defend their land.

On Monday, 7 June 2021, the traditional ruler through his media aide, Moses Olafare, expressed his deepest displeasure as it concerns the current security situation in the country.

He noted that Yoruba people are peaceful and disciplined but they are not fools even though they are law-abiding.

Speaking against the attack on Yorubas and residents of the said community, The Ooni of Ife said the attack purportedly carried out by perpetrators from a particular region of the country is capable of disintegrating the nation.

"This is why those behind it must be smoked out of their jungles and dealt with accordingly,” he said.

Speaking further, he said there is no better period to approach the security situation in the country than now. He said every government is constituted to protect the lives and properties of the people because it is the basis Why the government was formed at first. "We Yorubas are disciplined people and law-abiding but not fools,” he said.

The 46-year-old monarch pointed out that reliable information showed that a huge number of foreign bandits and Fulani herdsmen of Tuareg extraction are planning to attack some communities in the South-West. He disclosed in the same report that the Yoruba people are ever ready to defend their land.

“We are prepared to defend ourselves without resorting to anarchy,” he concluded.
