Edo State Government has revealed some of the reasons why Owners of Motorcycles and Tricycles will need to register for Rider's Permit in Edo State.
Mr George Aghahowa explained that Owners of Motorcycles and Tricycles will be entitled to some incentives ranging from Unique Identification Codes, health insurance packages as well as legitimacy to conduct business within the State, through the Rider's Permit registration Scheme.
He also added that the Rider's Permit registration Scheme was to check the influx of undocumented drivers, who hide under the disguise of riding motorcycles to perpetuate crime in the State,he said, "We often have incidents of robbery and kidnapping perpetuated by those who ride motorcycles, this would be put to a stop with this initiative, as Operators of Motorcycles and Tricycles would bear Unique Codes identifying them as genuine Operators". He further explained that the ban on the operations of motorcycles and tricycles within the Benin metropolis was still in place.
Recall that Edo State Government, through it's Secretary, Barr Osarodion Ogie, had earlier announced the commencement of the issuance of Rider's Permit to Owners of Motorcycles and Tricycles in the State.
