Murtala Muhammed was a former Nigerian military Head of State who held sway in power from July 1975 until he was assassinated in February 1976. He was born as Murtala Ramat Muhammed on the 8th day of November 1938.
Born into the Fulani ruling class of the Kano Emirate, he grew up in the Emir Of Kano's palace and had his primary education at Cikin Gida Elementary School, which was situated in the Emirs palace.
He then proceeded to Barewa College, Zaria where he obtained his senior school leaving certificate In 1957. After his secondary education, he applied to join the Nigerian army in 1957. Murtala Mohammed became Nigeria's head of State from July 1975 until he was assassinated in February 1976.
The focus of this article is on his beautiful and intelligent first daughter, Mrs Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode, who is a lawyer and a renowned human rights activist.
Aisha Muhammed Oyebode is the first child and first daughter of Nigeria's late military leader. She was very young when her father was assassinated in 1976.
She had her secondary education at the prestigious Queens college at Yaba, Lagos. After then, she proceeded to Buckingham college in London, where she bagged her Bachelor's degree in Law. She also obtained her B.L degree from to the Nigerian Law school. She also has a masters in Public international law from the university of London and a Masters in Business administration from the Imperial College London.
Muhammed-Oyebode was recently appointed as the Chairperson of the board of Lekoil Nigeria Limited, which is an oil And gas exploration and production company in January 2021.
She is also the CEO of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation and the group chief executive officer of Asset Management Group (AMG) Limited.
As a seasoned development specialist, she is also an international NGO expert and human rights activist with special focus on women and girls initiatives.
Aisha is married to one of Nigeria's top lawyers, Mr Gbenga Oyebode.
