A report reaching us from Daily Nigerian has confirmed an attack on the Kaduna - Abuja railway line by bandits. According to the report, a train bearing number AK9 was attacked on Wednesday night between Rijana and Dutse axis of Kaduna State forcing it to stutter and stop after moving about 7Km. The assailant later came back on Thursday morning and blew off the rail track, thereby hindering the movement of trains. It should be noted that travelers prefer using the Kaduna - Abuja railway due to the incessant attacks on motorists by bandits.
The recent attack is a big blow on commuters using the railway transport and more attacks might be witnessed if the following proactive measures are not taken by the security operatives:
Firstly, security operatives should be stationed at strategic locations along the railway lines to help protect lives. With the presence of the police and other law enforcement agencies at various train stations, bandits will be kept at bay. Also, villagers residing along the railway lines should be employed to help keep the track safe.
Secondly, thoroughly armed policemen or military personnel should escort every train to and fro its destination. By so doing, bandits who attack the train will be engaged by the armed security.
Thirdly, commuters should be properly investigated before being allowed to board the train. Documents like valid identity cards should be presented by travelers. This measure will help check spies disguising as passengers.
