Rivers: EFCC Officials, Policemen Force PUNCHman To Delete Photos

Some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were seen outside Model Primary School on Elekahia Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday morning in a white bus, accompanied by armed men of the Nigeria Police Force. When a PUNCH correspondent was spotted taking photos of the officials, the security agents stormed out of the bus to confront him and forced him to delete the pictures from his phone. The reason for their presence is not immediately clear, and it is unknown if they were there to check vote-buying or not.

In a separate development, a member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe, was reportedly arrested with a bundle of dollars along Ana Road, Port Harcourt on Friday morning. However, it is not clear whether his arrest was related to the EFCC officials' presence outside Model Primary School.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, condemned the security agents' actions and apologized to the journalist, saying that they had no right to force him to delete his photos. She further stated that the journalist was just doing his job, as the security agents were performing their election duties.

Meanwhile, at Ward 9, Polling Unit 7, on Ekani Street, Off Wimpey Junction, where Governor Nyesom Wike is expected to cast his vote, election materials were yet to arrive as of 9:40 am on Saturday. Although voters, policemen, and other security officials were already present, there were no officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in sight. The tent meant for the ad hoc staff was still empty, and people were awaiting their arrival.
