Minister pushes for sign language interpreters on TV stations
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has directed the National Broadcasting Commission to implement the Broadcasting Code provision.
This will mandate television stations to deploy sign language interpreters on their major news bulletin, for the benefit of persons living with a disability.
Mohammed gave the directive when he received executives of the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities at his office in Abuja.
Hoodlums attack, kill two police officers in Akwa Ibom
Unidentified hoodlums on Monday attacked and killed two police officers at Ikpe Annang junction in Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom State.
The hoodlums also set ablaze a Hilux van belonging to Quick Response Squad attached to the Essien Udim Police Division and stationed at Ikpe Annang junction where the attack took place.
The incident happens to be a reprisal attack on the police over a renewed fight against insecurity in the area.
N6.25bn Palliative: Senate Demands Arrest Of NDDC Boss
The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, has issued warrant of arrest on the Interim Administrator of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Effiong Okon Akwa, for failing to honour the panel’s invitation.The committee had, on several occasions, summoned the NDDC boss to offer explanation on N6.2 billion spent the commission spent on COVID-19 palliatives.
Irked by the absence of the NDDC boss at its sitting on Monday, the Committee, chaired by Senator Ayo Akinyelure (PDP Ondo Central), resolved that the Inspector – General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, will be officially contacted by the Senate to bring the NNDC boss before the committee unfailingly on the 9th of next month.
