Fire destroys warehouses, shops in Rivers
Goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed when two separate fire rocked Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Friday night.
One of the fire outbreak was at the popular Bishop Okoye Market in the Mile Three Area of Port Harcourt, while the second was at Chief Odum Street in Ogunabali area of the metropolis.
At the Bishop Okoye market , bags of foodstuff such as rice , beans , garri , drinks , salt , others , were lost to the fire which started at 8pm , while buildings , mainly makeshifts were destroyed at the Ogunabali fire.
NSCDC rescues Abia girl chained by mother
Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in Abia State have rescued a teenage girl from Umuokoro Obinkita in Arochukwu Local Government Area, simply identified as Ada who was chained by the neck and limbs and locked away in their house by her mother.The rescue according to NSCDC source followed a tip-off and support from the Vicar Hope Foundation and the Child Protection Network.
According to the the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Mr. Ndukwe, the rescue was effected after 24 hours of surveillance mounted at the victim’s home.
APC berates Makinde over planned LG election
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, has described the purported plan by Governor Seyi Makinde to conduct fresh local government election in May this year as a theatre of the absurd which could not attract the attention of any serious political player or pundits as it was a mere waste of time and resources.
The PDP administration of Gov Makinde and the opposition APC had been at daggers’ drawn, over the legality or otherwise of the governor’s decision to dissolve the elected officials of the 33 local government councils and 35 local council development areas on his first day in office in 2019 even as the Supreme Court has announced May 7, 2021 as the date for its final verdict on the matter.
Ibarapa: Herdsmen not responsible for Aborode’s killing – Makinde
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Saturday declared that herdsmen were not responsible for the killing of Dr. Fatai Aborode.Aborode, a former House of Representatives candidate, was last year killed in Iganga, a town in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state by yet to be identified persons.
The killing and other killings, kidnapping and attacks in Ibarapa geopolitical zone have been attributed to suspected herdsmen.
