The activities of bandits in most areas of the northern region of the country have hindered economic growth and development in the region. These bandits have carried out nefarious and unlawful activities within the region. These bandits have kidnapped and even killed some residents of the region and even carried out activities that led to the loss of lives and property. That being said, Sokoto State has had its fair share of the activities of these bandits that have negatively affected the state.
However, two recent activities were recently reported which will facilitate the end of these bandits in Sokoto State.
1. The ban of the sale of petrol above N5,000 to motorists, N500 for motorcycles.
This strict measure taken by the Sokoto state government will facilitate the end of the activities of the bandits. It is good to understand that bandits require these petroleum products in large quantities to fuel their automobile engines which they use whenever they are carrying out their deadly attacks. Hence, with this limited sale of petroleum products, the movement of the bandits will be curtailed and eventually lead to the end of banditry in the state.
2. Report that hunters are involved in fighting bandits.
It was reported by the Peoples Gazette that hunters from Saminaka village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto, have besieged neighboring forests in search of bandits who invaded their abode on Sunday, killing no fewer than six people. This is indeed a good development in the state. It is also good to understand that these hunters have very good knowledge of the routes in the forest and if they get involved with going after the bandits, this will also facilitate the end of banditry. However, I think that the Sokoto state government should use these hunters that are willing to go after bandits in the forest as guides to military men who are more sophisticated to gallantly fight bandits.
In all, victory against banditry is non-negotiable. These bandits must be flushed out from every state they exist and as such, any technique that will clamp down on their activities should be deployed immediately, so that peace and serenity will return to Sokoto State and other affected states.
