The security situation being faced in the southeastern region of the country is causing significant hardship, tension and anxiety especially among the common people who depend on their daily petty trades to earn a living. The alleged Sit-At-Home order imposed by the proscribed organisation has caused fear and uncertainty in the minds of people. Local businesses were closed due to fear of attacks by aggrieved members of the organisation. However, the security forces are stepping up to restore normalcy in the region.
What the alleged 'unknown gunmen' are causing in the southeastern region of the country is completely unfair to the commoners. It is barbaric that these commoners have their petty trades disrupted amidst the economic hardship, poor income, low patronage and trade challenges being faced in the country.
Whenever there is insecurity, the lowest members of society suffer the most because their daily survival depends on the petty trades they do. The resurgence of violent attacks by unknown gunmen is generating mixed reactions, especially across social media platforms. There are reports by Vanguard and Premium Times newspapers that a truck containing goods were burnt down by hoodlums under the pretence of enforcing the Sit-At-Home order imposed by the proscribed organisation.
Many people living in the southeastern region of the country including the influential personalities from the region like Mr Joe Igbokwe has taken to their social media platforms to lament the violent behaviours of people who cause destruction under the pretence of agitation. These are people who acknowledge and accept the diversity, unity and leadership of Nigeria. Mr Joe Igbokwe may also be considered as one of the victims of this menace because he recently lose his house and property to a fire ignited by 'unknown gunmen'.

The Nigerian Army has launched a special military operation which will be conducted nationwide. This operation is targeted at tackling the increasing rate of violent attacks on people and businesses across the country. This perhaps will tackle the menace of criminals and provide a lasting solution to incessant attacks.
