Sheikh Ahmad Gumi was born into the family of late Abubakar Gumi in Kaduna State. He finished his secondary school in Kaduna before gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he studied Medicine.

The Islamic cleric has been in the news in recent times following his meeting with the bandit group in Niger State after some staffs and Kagara students were abducted and bandits listed their demands for peace deal.

Recall that he asked the federal government to grant amnesty to the bandits. According to a source, the Islamic cleric recently said that it was the Niger Delta militants that taught the Fulani herdsmen how to kidnap Nigerians.

Few days ago, Sheikh Gumi claimed that the military authorities don't want to end terrorism as they are benefiting from the money allocated to them in the fight against insurgency.

Gumi was enlisted into the Nigeria Defence Academy and served as a captain before he moved to Saudi Arabia to further his Islamic education at Ummul Kura University in Saudi Arabia.
