Billionaire kidnapper, Evans, denies being a kidnapper, says he is a genuine businessman.

Popular billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, AKA, Evans, has said that he was never a kidnapper, but a businessman who deals on ornaments and Horlicks. Evans made the statement in Court, on Tuesday, August 3.

Recall that the suspected kidnapper was arrested some years ago for the kidnapping of several people. He is standing trial alongside Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba, over the kidnap of one Donatus Dunu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Maydon Pharmaceutical Limited, from whose family they collected N100 million, as ransom.

Evans who was led by his counsel, Victor Okpara, denied all the allegations of kidnapping levelled against him, by the Lagos State Government. He insisted that he was a genuine businessman.

He said that he was forced to admit being a kidnapper, after the police in a bid to make him confess, killed four persons in his presence. He also said that ‘Evans’ is not his nickname.

Also Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba, Nigerian soldiers, who were arraigned with Evans, denied being accomplices to the crime. Aduba said he refused to sign a written statement admitting to the crime, after he was ordered to do so by a member of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Idowu Haruna. He said he later signed the statement after Haruna threatened to kill him.

Aduba also showed to the court, marks on his body, claiming he was taken to a place by Haruna, where he was beaten and cut with a machete. He also narrated how three other men who were paraded before the media as kidnappers, were killed by the members of the Intelligence Response Team.

The case was later adjourned till November 5.
