49 Killed as bandits opened fire on villagers at a market in Sokoto

About 49 villagers were said to have been killed after bandits opened fire on villagers at a market located in Goronyo town, the Goronyo local government area of Sokoto State.

According to reports made available by Saharareporters, the bandits who came in large numbers rounded up villagers in the market on Sunday evening and opened fire on them leading to the death of some villagers, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were reportedly taken to the General Hospital, Sabon Birni for necessary medical treatment.

Following the ugly development, one of the villagers who spoke with SaharaReporters revealed that residents had to flee the community as insecurity in the area heightens.

The attack on village markets in Sokoto is getting out of hand, and I guess it's high time for security operatives to find a lasting solution and prevent further loss of lives. Earlier this month, the bandits reportedly killed at least 19 traders after they raided a weekly market at Unguwan Lalle in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, and now about 49 people are gone.

May the Lord rest the soul of those who lost their lives and grant the family the fortitude to bear this great loss.
