According to a report by Daily Trust, 19 traders were slain by suspected bandits who raided a weekly market at Unguwan Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Friday. The attack that looks like a reprisal attack came a day after an outlawed vigilante group, Yan Sakai stormed the Mamande’s weekly market on Thursday and killed about 11 suspected bandits including the Imam of a mosque.

It is sad how the lives of people have become so easy to take for some persons. The government should explore other means apart from military offensive in tackling the activities of bandits in the North. Several security analysts that are acquainted with the happenings in the North have suggested that they employ the services of hunters and Vigilantes to fight bandits in each community.
All Nigerians are aware that the security operatives in the country are overwhelmed by the activities of these criminal forces across Nigeria. The security operatives can't be everywhere to protect Nigerians, therefore the State government should rise to tackle the insecurity in their State by employing the services of local hunters. These hunters know the bushes and terrains in which these bandits live better than the security operatives, an edge they have over them that can be used in tackling insecurity perpetrated by bandits.
Although the processes deployed by the government to tackle insecurity in the North are also effective. These methods of shutting down down telecommunications Satellites, blockage of markets, and military offensive have reduced the invasive activities of bandits. But truth be told, bandits are still attacking soft targets such as markets, hospitals, schools, and other places in the North which they found vulnerable. Therefore, other methods like employing hunters and vigilantes to tackle insurgency should also be looked into by the government.
